Flacco Watts, a.k.a. Watty Watts, has entered a temporary pseudo-retirement while his kids make their way through high school.
For the next few years, he has chosen to redirect most of his time and energy toward the athletics community around them—at their school, throughout the city, and across the state. From officiating to coaching, volunteering, mentoring, and simply showing up where help is needed, this season of life is less about building something online and more about being present in the real world.
The websites, shows, projects, and assorted mischief are not necessarily gone for good. They have simply been moved farther down the priority list while there is still time to stand on the sidelines, work in the gym, blow a whistle, coach a kid, and participate in a chapter of family life that will be over far sooner than it presently seems.
Consider this less a retirement than an intermission.
The lights aren’t off. They’re just pointed somewhere else for a while.
